Tue, August 10, 2004 - 2:44 PMi can only speak for myself - and i almost never put "real" info in my profile. i also keep only one account at this time, and i did go by my real full name for a short period of time quite recently. very few people use their real full names on here, and i decided to go back to being a version of hatdog. i'm not underground, and don't mean to give the impression that i am. and i've always answered anyone PM'd me who wanted to know who i was. -

Tue, August 10, 2004 - 3:25 PMYeah, I know you've always been somewhat alt-y. And I did notice that you put your real full name up... or at least I figured that was the case from the last name initial, since I'm currently two degrees away from you in tribe terms.
I don't really care if people know my real name. Since I have a website that clearly states my real name, and I link to that from my tribe profile, anyone can quickly and easily figure out who I am.
I'm more curious about those who once a consistent real first name, or a unique moniker, and then changed that after the unfortunate incident. How does getting booted change one's relationship to the tribe community? Why would someone wish to obscure their identity after being involuntarily unsubscribed, especially if the booting was considered unfair? If it happened to me, I'd re-create the same profile with the same information, to try to maintain continuity. -

my guesses:
1. people change identity in protest of the action taken against them.
2. people change identity because they are afraid that if they confess to being the owner of the former, removed account they will be removed again.
3. people feel less comfortable with the "privacy" provided by tribe.
4. people are people and some people just like to mix it up.
5. being suddenly unsubbed, it is impossible to "maintain continuity." from what i have seen, none of the 7 who were unsubbed on 7/29 have "maintained continuity." and it ripples out from there...
